When I first started writing, this space was known as The Heart Wood Journal.

At the time, my ceremonies took place beneath the trees at my private venue, The Heart Wood. It was a place where couples gathered to celebrate love, connection and new beginnings, and the journal became somewhere to share ideas, inspiration and guidance along the way.

While that chapter has now come to a close, the heart of my work hasn't changed.

Today, you'll still find me creating relaxed, meaningful wedding ceremonies across Gladstone and Central Queensland, helping couples celebrate one of life's most important moments in a way that feels genuine, personal and unmistakably theirs.

This journal has simply grown alongside that journey.

Here you'll find practical advice on writing your wedding vows, understanding the legal side of getting married, ceremony inspiration, behind-the-scenes reflections, and ideas to help you create a wedding that feels authentic to you.

Whether you're newly engaged, deep into planning, or just looking for a little inspiration, I'm so glad you're here.

Welcome to the next chapter.

Kym

Why Your Wedding Ceremony Matters More Than the Party

Your wedding ceremony is more than just the lead-up to a party—it’s the sacred moment where you commit your love and begin your journey together. Yet, many couples find themselves spending more time planning their reception than the actual ceremony.

Why the Ceremony Deserves More Attention

It Sets the Tone – The energy of your ceremony carries into your entire day. A heartfelt ceremony creates an unforgettable atmosphere.

It’s the Core of Your Marriage – The vows and rituals you choose aren’t just symbolic; they represent your love and commitment.

It’s Your Story – Unlike receptions, which often follow a structured format, ceremonies can be deeply personal.

Ways to Make Your Ceremony Meaningful

Write Personal Vows – Express your unique love story.

Include a Ritual – Handfasting, candle lighting, or a labyrinth walk can add depth.

Choose Meaningful Music & Readings – Let these reflect your relationship.

A wedding ceremony should be a reflection of who you are as a couple. Here’s how to make yours deeply personal:

Choose the Right Celebrant – Your celebrant should understand your vision and guide you in making it a reality.

Tell Your Story – Share moments from your journey together and include personalized readings or music.

Incorporate Symbolism – Whether it’s a handfasting, a meaningful reading, or a labyrinth walk, choose elements that resonate with you.

Consider the Setting – The location of your ceremony sets the mood. Think about whether an outdoor, intimate, or traditional space feels right.

Stay Present – This is your moment. Breathe, connect with your partner, and soak it all in.

Your wedding is your love story—let’s make it unforgettable!

Here’s a simple way to craft vows that feel authentic and meaningful:

Reflect on Your Relationship – Think about what you love most about your partner and what promises feel important to make.

Set the Tone – Romantic, funny, poetic—your vows should feel like you.

Use a Simple Structure –

Start with what you love about them.

Make a few meaningful promises.

End with a heartfelt statement about your future together

Keep It Short & Sweet – Aim for about a minute of spoken vows.

Practice Reading Them Out Loud – This helps with flow and confidence.

Need inspiration? Stay tuned for a collection of vow examples in a future post!
